Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 Digital Camera Review

Are you looking for a good point-and-shoot digital camera? If you are, one camera to consider is the Sony Cybershot DSC-W1. This little compact camera is currently flying off the shelves. With good optics and a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, in addition to great looking pictures, the DSC-W1 is one of the more popular cameras around.

Design and Construction
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 is one stylish looking camera. A direct competitor to the Canon PowerShot S500, the DSC-W1 has been constructed to be a compact, travel ready camera that you can use to take quick snaps. Its dimensions are 3.5 inches by inches by 1.25 inches (weight-height-depth) and it weighs only 7.0 ounces.

One aspect of the camera I found especially impressive was the large 2.5 inch LCD screen. Most compact cameras have small LCDs so much so that you have to quick to look at the postage stamp sized images. Well, not in the Sony DSC-W1. The large screen makes it a joy to do on camera image editing or to show off your pictures to friends and family.

Optics and Resolution
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 comes with a 5.1 megapixel resolution, as well as 3x optical zoom and 2x digital zoom. Theres a built-in Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens to allow quick focusing in a wide variety of photo environments.

The optics in this camera are also superb. There are comprehensive focusing options available if youre more adventurous and want to play around with advanced manual camera options.

If you want to customize the camera to take photos at night, for example, you can change the shutter speed or play with the size of the aperture quite easily. If you need to take a quick shot in the middle of a vacation, you can switch back to auto focus and exposure so that the camera does everything for you. In short, the Sony DSC-W1 has features which give you extreme flexibility in taking photos.

User Controls
The user controls in the Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 are found next to the LCD and on a mode dial at the top surface of the camera. I found the controls easy to use. Whether you want to zoom in on an image, or change to a different scene mode or focus setting, the controls are always within easy reach.

Movie Mode
I also like the availability of a movie mode in the DSC-W1. You know, sometimes when youre out in the park or on a vacation, you get those moments when you know a video will be more appropriate instead of a photo. Thats where the movie mode is useful. You can capture video at 30 frames per second (fps) at VGA size 640 x 480 that roughly translates to 90 seconds of video on the included 32 MB memory card.

Direct Printing
As with many new digital cameras, the Sony DSC-W1 supports PictBridge direct printing. This is tremendously useful if you want to quickly print out photos without having to import them to a computer first. Of course, you will need a printer that is PictBridge compatible as well the Canon Pixma iP4000 is my personal choice.

Storage and Transfer
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 comes with a 32MB Sony Memory Stick which is hardly enough for serious photo taking, since each image is potentially 5MB in size. Id recommend getting at least a 128MB Memory Stick to complement the camera. In terms of image transfer, the camera supports USB 2.0 ports. This means that youll experience lightning transfer of data between the camera and your computer.

Battery Life
One thing I love about the Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 is the battery system. The camera supports standard AA batteries like those from Energizer. This is pretty rare in digital cameras most cameras need to use a proprietary battery. The ability to support AA batteries is great because you need not worry about the batteries running out AA batteries are easily found in any convenience store.

Shortcomings
There are some quirks I noticed in the Sony DSC-W1. Though not serious problems, they did serve to mar my experience with this camera somewhat. What are these quirks? They include:

* Lack of a panorama-assist mode
* Lock of white-balance calibration options
* No way to adjust the camera's automatic power-down time.
* Lack of a good photo editor in the bundled software

Conclusion
I do hope this review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W1 has been of help to you. If youre looking for a good travel camera to take fun shots with, this Sony model is tough to beat. I personally own a Canon PowerShot S500, but Id also recommend this Sony because many of my friends have been raving about it.

Varta AA NiMH Digital Camera Battery 2-Pack 2700mAh

Varta AA NiMH Digital Camera Battery 2-Pack 2700mAh
Rechargeable Photo Accu batteries utilize innovative Nickel Metal Hydride technology resulting in up to 100% more capacity than conventional Nickel-Cadmium and no "memory effect". Plus, these cells can be recharged up to 1,000 times. The 2,300 mAh capacity makes these batteries ideal for digital cameras. 2 per pack. 0% cadmium, 0% mercury.

Customer Review: They really don't last

I bought 4 packs of these AA batteries here at Amazon (8 batteries total) about 7 months ago. At first it seemed great to be able to just recharge them and keep using them. After about 2 or 3 charges I noticed that they don't last for more than a few uses on all of the electronics I used them for.

For instance, I used them in my Fuji digital camera and they only last about 4 or 5 pictures (w/ flash). The regular AAs tend to last me 12 or so with the flash. In my Logitech wireless trackball, they only last a couple of weeks where the regular AAs last a couple of months.

I'm now using them in my TV and VCR remotes because that's the lowest current draw I can use them for. I have AAA rechargeables by Maxell that seem to last way better in my MP3 player. It also seems to take over 6 hours to charge these batteries up. I recommend only getting a couple of these and a couple of some other brand to compare before buying in bulk.

Customer Review: Epson V500 Scanner

I am unable to review this itme because to date I have been unable to get it to talk to my computer. I went to the Epson site and they indicated I have the latest driver. I even enlisted the aid of my son sort of a teckie and he was unable to get it to work. I was planning on buying one of the large format Epson printers but have decided to go with a different brand.

Customer Review: Epson V500 Scanner

I read the reviews before I purchased this product and most said it was not a bad scanner. Well....I could not get it to load the software on OS Vista, so I tried my other computer using XP Pro and could not load the software either. I bypassed the denial of a dialog box and tried to use the scanner and it would not work. Software and instructions are online and they are poor, poor, poor) Do not buy this product..

Customer Review: Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF

This camera works great. The only issue I hade was with the software. I could not find any way to reduce the video size to allow it to work better in low band width situations.

Customer Review: Good picture, good sound

The hardware and software installed flawlessly and it has been used with Skype and Windows Live Messenger.

I am happy with the video and audio quality. The auto exposure works well in dim light. The face following feature prefers to follow bright lights if your face is in shadow so I had to turn if off. Bad lighting also fooled the auto focus once; so for best results make sure you face is lit. The stalk raises the camera for showing more than the underside of your chin. The mic does not cause feedback and ringing when used with speakers so you don't need to use headphones.

The aim of this article was to spread as much information on document camera as possible. We surely do hope that we have succeeded in it.

A document camera Artilce for Your Viewing
Stocking up with the best digital camera accessories

There are a large number of digital camera accessories available in the market today. Even though you might have invested a few hundred dollars in your digital camera (although they are getting cheaper by the day), you should buy yourself a few accessories as well so that you can enhance the photo quality of your pictures.

Software that can help you to organize your snaps properly is one of the essential digital camera accessories that you need. Remember the time when you returned from a holiday with your friends and you had over 100 snaps to organize? This is when you realize the value of such software.

There is a large number of such software available today. These include image-editing programs such as Photoshop Element 3 by Adobe. This program is an improved version of the older Photoshop Album and consists of some great image organizing tools. Then, we also have the Digital Image Suite 10 by Microsoft that has some cool features that allow you to very easily arrange your snaps in a particular order.

In addition to image enhancing capabilities, another problem that one faces is that normally digital cameras come with a limited data storage capacity. And when you are out vacationing, it is not always possible to keep on loading your pics onto your laptop (especially if you are trekking up Mt. Everest). So, one of the most handy of digital camera accessories is a Memory Card or a Secure Digital Card. These are extremely cheap, i.e. the price starts from a mere $30 and increases according to the memory capacity that you need. They are available in all stores that sell office or computer related items.

Now that you have purchased a memory card, the next step is to go buy yourself a memory card reader. This will help you to get rid off your USB cable and can be used to read the memory card when you want to transfer photographs to your computer. These are extremely handy and can easily be carried around in your laptop bag while traveling. But ensure that you are picking up one that is USB 2.0 compatible, since the transfer speed is much faster than the regular USB 1.1.

Once you have started collecting digital camera accessories, you will realize that there are many, many items that you can purchase. These include lenses that can add an extra zing to your snaps, an extra flash to help you during times of crisis, a tripod stand - and load more. So, get going and start your collection.

Customer Review: Not all it's cracked up to be

I ordered the Creative Zen over an iPod Nano because it was cheaper, and said it would work with my iTunes library and Napster. Once I received it i discovered iTunes would not recognize the device, and I had to manually transfer my iTunes music files over to the device using their special creative software, and everytime I tried to sync with Napster, I received an Internal Clock Not Set error. Due to the internal clock not setting, Napster would never sync, even though both Creative and Napster say that the Zen 4GB is a supported Napster device. It was fairly light, and I liked the radio feature, but the buttons felt cheap. Creative included their own software for downloading podcasts, and even their own software would not convert the podcasts they provide and sync it with the device.

All in all this was a major hasstle. When I owned my iPod I just plugged it in and it worked. This had to many issues.

Customer Review: Creative Labs Zen 4GB

This is a great product at a great price. If you want a great entry level player, this is the one. Everything was easy to set up. I had it near capacity in no time.

The sound is really clear and the pictures look amazing. Note...when you set your songs up on the player make sure to tag them the way you want to see it on the Zen screen.

This is my one complaint: Here's what should have been in the box; Wall charger adapter, screen protector and the following...which is included...Zen player, earphones, USB 2.0 cable, installation CD, and quick start guide.

Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)
8.0-megapixel effective recording * 3" LCD screen * 3.8X optical zoom (4X digital/15X total zoom) * optical image stabilizer * top JPEG resolution: 3264 X 2448 *

Customer Review: CAUTION: wide angle--you'll get what you ask for

just got this camera "sight unseen" as an upgrade from an older casio, as i couldn't find it locally to give it a test drive. as i like to travel a lot, i thought the wide angle would be a great addition. but in reality, most of my photos are of my family. i have to admit, when i grabbed the camera to take a quick snapshot of my 1 year old, i was startled to see so much background. i'm used to a tighter crop, and realizing i would probably spend a lot of time zooming in despite being just a few feet away, i've decided to bite the bullet, return this one, and get the 800is instead.

i've still given it 4stars. the picture and response were great, and i'm looking forward to the 800is. just ask yourself if you REALLY want that wide angle... it's NOT for everyone. i almost wish i'd read a similar review, so here's my service to anyone else sitting on the fence...

Customer Review: Blurrry!

After my (Great)Canon S60 fell for the last time I decided it was time for a new Canon. Because i have a 10D, and a 30D as well and they are great too, i am a canon man. That was a $300.00 mistake. every other picture is Blurry (with the image stablizer on or off). and i was just looking / comparing the old picrures by the S60, All the SD870is pic.s seemed blurry. It's time to give Nikon a chance. H.

With its patented ZEN user interface which offers more information to be viewed on the screen, navigating through mass content is simply a breeze Integrated FM radio with 32 preset stations. Get free video and audio podcast channels through your player from ZENcast Record important meetings or voice memos to yourself with the integrated voice recorder Built-in rechargeable battery for up to 25 hours of music or five hours of movies Creative ZEN comes with earphones, USB 2.0 cable, quick start Leaflets and installation CD (includes Creative Media Explorer software and ZENcast Organizer) Size WxHxD - 3.26 x 2.16 x 0.44 Weight - 2.1 oz

Other than that I'm very happy with my purchase.

Life is full of questions; so this article was written with the intention of solving the question on canon camera digital. Sure do hope that your questions have been answered.

Entering the World of Digital Video Cameras

Gone are the days when you would need to employ a professional to take a video for your business projects. Whether you need it to provide training to your employees or students, you can do it yourself with the help of a digital video camera. In fact, with the advent of the Internet, and e-learning becoming so popular nowadays, a digital video camera has become essential equipment for all organizations, especially training or educational institutes.

Digital video cameras are extremely simple to use. They are lightweight and compact. Also, the transfer of video conversations is extremely simplified in a digital video camera. So, now the question arises that how does one go about choosing a camera for himself/herself?

Before you go shopping for a digital video camera, it is essential that you answer a few questions. These will help you to pick up the best camera which is most suitable to your needs.
Since voice clarity is critical in a digital video camera, you need to know whether you will be shooting indoors or outdoors.

Also, what kind of videos do you plan to take are they going to be of people shopping around in a mall or mostly of officers giving multimedia presentations in a conference room ?
What is the kind of lighting that you are going to get ? Is the weight of the camera an issue ?
What is the battery life of the camera that you will need ? Do you plan to shoot for a couple of hours together or only a few minutes ?
Do you plan to use any special effects while shooting ?

Once you have answered all these questions, you will be able to get a basic idea of the kind of camera that you need.

Lets go over the types of digital video cameras for consumers and hobbyists. First there is DV, HDDV, Mini DV. Handheld palm size cameras, larger full featured cameras with great audio options, and finally cameras that rival professional quality and can be used to make some very professional looking video products.

It is also important that you have the correct software for enhancing the images once you have loaded them onto your computer. These will help you to edit your work in the best possible manner and also easily load them for video conferencing, emailing etc.

Many software programs for NLE editing (non linear editing) exist for the consumer and pro alike. Adobe makes it Premier line of editing software which has proven to be quite popular and effective over the years. This is more of a mid level software and is relatively expensive. I use it for my corporate editing needs. Other mid to high level software packages include Final Cut Pro (on the Mac platform), and DV Express (from Avid). On the cheaper side of things you can use the Imovie software on the Mac side of things, Pinnacle Studio 9, Ulead Video Studio 8, and My DVD5 from Sonic.

Hence, if you do your homework in advance, you will be happy in the end. So, go and check out websites and shops for information on what you need, talk to shop keepers, and then simply zoom away! There are so many wonderful things you as a consumer can do today with digital video cameras. Don't wait for the next wave. Jump into digital video today and have some fun with it.

Yeah well I use allot of batteries since we have a 3 year old little girl, you know she has allot of devices that use batteries. I purchased the sets from Costco, 2 sets of them to be exact. I also purchased 2 sets of the AA batteries from Amazon. Just cant get enough of these batteries. They work right out of the box, last long, great charge. Who could ask for anything more... Oh yeah if you get the kit set the C and S shells, these things are wonderful. I dont have to go out and buy C and D batteries now, just use the shells with the current AA batteries and it works like a charm....

Choosing Digital Camera Wisely

Earlier than the present, taking pictures that will cater to the photographers own preference and style is a very meticulous process. Most of the time, it involves a series of shots to ensure its aesthetic beauty and accuracy. In order to seize a perfect picture, a photographer has to waste rolls of film, but not anymore. With the arrival of digital cameras, it gave photographers and amateurs in the field of photography an air of thrill and a deep breath of relief. No longer difficult is to achieve the right angle, perspective, color and engrossing image. This is because you can easily delete a bad picture right after you have taken it.

However, as the years go by, expert photographers realized the flaws in some digital cameras. They complained of the low-image resolution, deficient camera features and limited color quality. Some manufacturers, on the other side, have realized the increasing demand of the photographers so they added tools and features to answer the needs.

Not all digital cameras are created equal. So many digital cameras are available in the market and its so hard to choose which one suits our wants and needs. If you are unaware of some vital information, you can be an easy prey to defraud. Better yet to know the ins and outs of the digital camera interface. If you do not know what to choose and how to do it, here are some tips to do it:

1. Decide what type of camera you need. If youre into interchangeable-lens photography, you better choose an interchangeable-lens digital SLR. If you want a handy travel-wise design, go for an advanced compact camera.

2. Decide what size most of your pictures should be. Higher resolution cameras make larger digital files, thus, if you want bigger enlargements, you can have high resolution cameras.

3. Camera should give you SLR-like control to give you a good direct over the range of exposure on the photos youre taking.

4. Zoom potential must be unlimited with pro SLRs. The standard optical 3x zoom has been extended by some camera models. A camera with big lens can be indispensable in detailed picture taking.

5. Compatibility of your camera and lenses should be checked before purchasing it. You can opt to advanced compacts to optimize your focal length.

6. For you to be able to take advantage of the close-up photography, you can switch to macro.

7. Photographers must understand the ISO equivalency. Multiple ISO levels gives you the ability to select ISO equivalence or it can automatically select for you. Be familiar with extra-sensitivity and noise-reduction to improve the over-all quality of your pictures.

8. Auto white balance is the one responsible in controlling color shifting. This is done by making the brightest parts as pure as white. Some of the cameras have common presets. You can purchase the likes for easy camera management.

9. Another thing that you have to decide is the flash. Most of the cameras today come with built-in flash. Nevertheless, external flash, delivers more power and versatility because it gives off bounce flash to get hard-to-reach areas.

10. To free you from any regret, you can try the camera before purchasing it.
These guides can help you select the best digital camera. Cameras need not be expensive. They just have to be flexible and precise!

Embrace the Change that is Digitally Yours! Maricon WilliamsTo master digital technology, one has to be knowledgeable of the fundamentals of photography like the depth of field and exposure of the subject. A Photoshop guru can save an otherwise lousy shot. Believe me it can make a wild difference between a poorly taken original image. Photoshop mastery can give it life, spice and character!

You must be aware that old techniques most of the time, is lacking thus, we have to incorporate various and recent techniques in order to come up with a fabulous creation that can transcend limitations.
When you are taking a subject which has strong light and deep shadows, you have to capture both the details and the range of tones. You can do it by taking two or more different shots or images. When your subject is not moving, it is easy for you to have several original and identical images. Then seize different exposures. After that, you can combine them together to give an atmosphere of transparency. Bear in mind though, that you have to know the exposure latitude. If you are not sure about what you are doing, just bracket the exposures to capture the highlights and shadows.

There can be a situation where you cant get the entire image in focus. This may be frustrating but with the help of a digital processing this can be resolved. The remedy to this is to take two images and combine them in Photoshop. Photoshop will do the magic to make the image clear and convincing. To do this, you must take an image focused toward the foreground and the other image favoring the background. Leave some overlapping details in the middle where the two images are supposed to meet. Another alternative is to throw the background out of focus and also take a close-up image of an image. If you combine both images, the result will center on the close-up image however, it will create a certain background that will complement the focal image. The essential elements of this technique are the combination of a small aperture subject to a wide-aperture one and then combining it digitally. If you havent try this, you have to find time to explore this technique and feel the amazing tickle of your masterpiece.

Let us take advantage of the digital change. It is actually making a whole new difference in the photography world. Your artistic side may be telling you to capture the details and relay the message. Make sure you shut in even the minutest detail of the scene. How do you plan to convey the message? Make sure you capture it all!

Wii Pool Stick

Wii Pool Stick
Rack ?em and break ?em with this Pool Stick for your Nintendo Wii. Designed in the mold of a conventional pool stick, this 26.5" stick will give you the authentic feel of cueing it up on the pool table. The handle ofthe stick serves as the cradle for your Wii remote. The tip of the stick is covered with rubber to prevent any harm in the event that someone or something is poked. It is light in weight so that it does not become taxing over a period of long playing time, which makes the game even more enjoyable for the user.

Customer Review: Works or not depending on how you use it.

I really take some risk to buy it with such a poor rate. When I got it, I found out why some people called it a failure.

If you put your sensor bar above your TV like me, it definitely won't work if you assemble it as designed. Because the infra red signal comes out from a hole at the bottom of the stick. The stick itself will block the signal when sensor bar is higher. If sensor bar is below your TV, it works fine. Just for people playing with two hands, your left hand may block the signal sometimes.

For those who put the sensor bar above your TV, I suggest to use it as what I do now. It definitely works and gives you a real feel. Don't screw the stick onto the controller holder to its very end. Make half a circle left such that the hole will face upword. Now enjoy game and your pool stick.

Hope it help.

Customer Review: Great monitor calibrator

This is a great tool to insure that the edits you make on digital photographs produce the results you want in final prints. Intuitive to use, quick calibration, and useful reminders for periodic re-calibrations make this product a no-brainer for digital photographers.

Customer Review: Dual Monitor Use For Video Editing

I've been using Spyder 2PRO for several months to edit video on a Mac Book Pro 17' with a secondary monitor, switching between several different types of monitors including LCD and NTSC. During startup, the Mac determines which monitor is connected and applies the appropriate profile. After getting the hang of the software, matching monitor calibration was achieved and the relevant data stored with each monitor's profile. The only drawback has been the lack of Mac Book Pro's individual brightness and contrast manual controls which required several passes through monitor setup to find the best combination. After checking the calibrations using SMPTE color bars with a blue filter I am quite pleased with the results. Tips for the novice: Turn off all auto options on the computer such as keyboard backlight, ambient adjust, etc. and allow the Spyder ambient sensor to take light measurements and indicate changes in room lighting. Also, turn off all desktop pictures/designs and select solid medium gray as the backdrop when working with images.

Garmin 010-10691-05 City Navigator NT Italy and Greece Map

Garmin 010-10691-05 City Navigator NT Italy and Greece Map
Detailed coverage for Italy, Vatican City State, San Marino and Greece includes the municipalities of Patra, Greater Athens and Greater Thessaloniki

Customer Review: Even if you buy this, still have with you a regular map!

Oddly, the Product Details do not contain a very important piece of information: the map version. I suspect this Product is the same "CN Europe NT Italy and Greece Version 9" map that was available last year on just SD card (but not microSD). If so, I have a couple of comments regarding it.

My opinion, based on our 2007 trip to Tuscany, is: it certainly is a useful product but you cannot always rely on it. Even if you have this product and a GPS with you, still take along a good road atlas (such as Atlante Stradale d'Italia) for global route planning, and, wherever you plan to stay or visit more than once, always try to get a detailed local map.

Now some particular examples:

The V9 map was already noticeably obsolete in 2007. It was missing some new rotaries and ramps and some newly build highway extents. Once we missed our exit because of that.

Some places of interest were located incorrectly on the map. E.g. the railroad station in Poggibonsi, Tuscany, is located on the map on the wrong side of the tracks. The GPS brought us to a place from where there was no access to the station, no parking etc. When we realized what happened and manually directed the GPS to take us to the spot on the opposite side of the tracks, the GPS navigated us to a tunnel that we could not even enter because it was one way (the wrong way for us). Luckily, we had a local map that we used to find another railroad crossing! (I guess I could try the GPS "Detour" button and may be that would work out, but at the time I was just fed up with it!)

I could list many other annoying quirks some of which could be attributed to the map data (which I guess is produced by NAVTEQ) and some to the Garmin navigation system, but that would not be appropriate for this brief review.

And, of course, there were many cases when everything worked flawlessly and the product was of great help.

Hidden Security Cameras

Hidden Cameras are installed in most public places such as department stores, shopping malls, multiplexes, railway stations, airports, casinos, banks, etc. As their name suggests, these cameras are kept in places concealed to the public and they surreptitiously record people?s movements. They are connected to monitors or TV screens. Any incriminating move immediately shows up on the screens, which are manned by security personnel.

Security Cameras are very small and compact in size. Some modern cameras are so small that they measure just a couple of inches across and only a few millimeters in thickness. Bigger versions are available, but they are not popular as it is difficult to conceal them. Miniature and sub-miniature versions of Security Cameras are mostly used.

Large establishments use several hidden Security Cameras in various strategic points and then connect all of them together by cables. These are then networked onto a single CCTV monitor. CCTV screens are closely monitored by security guards. The advantage of having a CCTV Hidden Security Camera is that multiple views can be obtained simultaneously on the same screen.

Several methods are adopted to camouflage Security Cameras. They may be affixed inside ceiling fans, table lamps, in frames of paintings, or some other such camouflaged place. Some appliances use extreme deceptive tactics to hide their cameras. There are toys, lamps, clocks and other appliances which actually may be highly disguised Security Cameras.

They can be either wired or wireless. Despite their small size, they have a built-in recorder that records and simultaneously broadcasts images over the screen. Usually these cameras are installed at specific vantage points on or near the ceilings. Plaster is used to attach the plastic body of the camera to the wall. Tiny camera mounts are also available, but bring the camera more into view.

Some countries, like Great Britain, are trying to bring the whole of their public life into the view of Hidden Cameras. There are about 25 million hidden Security Cameras being used worldwide and millions of dollars are being spent for their purchase and research.

Customer Review: Why a DVD? (because it's lighter than a brick)

Watching a DVD did not seem like a way to learn a lot about digital cameras, but I have a lot of problems, a computer with a lot of programs that I don't totally comprehend, a scanner that might need to have its software program reloaded in the computer before I scan another picture, a small digital camera that is capable of recording ten-second videos about the size of music videos that dial-up modem computers can stream from the internet, and watching this DVD seemed like a logical way to find out how much I do know before I decided which problems I might be capable of solving.

First, the DVD says to know what use you plan before buying a camera, so the pictures the camera takes will be suitable for what you want to do. I already have a small but versatile camera, and I can transfer pictures from some of the photo programs on my computer to the e-mail messages I write, so I have often done that in the last year. One picture I took today was 640 pixels x 480 pixels, which this DVD calls just fair for making prints, but it is a size that I can send fast enough that my computer does not disconnect from the internet in the middle of the process. My computer tells me that the resolution for that image was 200 dpi. This DVD recommends having a better camera, capable of several megapixels, and setting the resolution to 300 for printing the pictures. My pictures aren't that good anyway, since I am rarely steady enough to keep the camera still while the picture is going into memory.

My camera does not use memory cards, so the information on this DVD was useful in case I ever decide that I need a camera that can take more pictures than I currently need to download whenever I reach the limit. This DVD talks about using GIFF (256 colors) files for internet pictures, jpg and jpeg files for standard picture size prints, or TIFF uncompressed files for cameras and memory cards that have extremely large capacities. Anyone who plans to get a 4 or 5 megapixel camera and take pictures for larger than 8 x 10 prints should listen very carefully to what this DVD says about memory requirements, compression, and why you are likely to get better quality prints from a professional service or even ordering prints over the internet than trying to maintain the printing equipment for doing it all yourself. I tried printing a large number of scanned images a few times. I bought a printer which should be good enough to knock the socks off of anyone who reads photocopies all day long, but printing pictures can create hassles that even this DVD does not delve into. As the DVD says, if it seems like you are spending more to get prints of your digital pictures, maybe you have more prints from your memory card than you used to get with a roll of film.

This DVD does not say anything about using digital cameras for videos. Read the manual for whatever camera you get, and start with the computer programs that come with the camera. I have never needed extra batteries for my camera, but I have a primitive viewfinder that gives me no indication where the edge of the picture will be. A camera that shows the picture will use a lot more power, and this DVD warns camera users that the batteries can run down while the would-be photographer is running through the camera's menu looking for whatever feature ought to be on.

The visual aspect of this DVD is not distracting. A little live action shows one guy talking, an assortment of cameras, then a few pictures. Changing the brightness and contrast for digital prints is one area that has rarely been helpful for me because, although I take a lot of underexposed pictures, I tend to like them that way. What this DVD calls brighter pictures look faded to me, with air replacing the deep brown tints that fill the shadows of the original pictures. I only brighten things that are too dark to see, but prone thinkers might agree with this DVD that brighter pictures look better. If you want great pictures, this DVD says you do not need a digital zoom on the camera. You can use an optical zoom to make a picture look closer, but digital zoom can't make the picture any sharper. It might take an experimental photographer a long time to discover all the things this DVD explains quickly about how weak the camera's built-in flash is likely to be, and who ought to have a camera with the external flash feature. I haven't taken any digital flash pictures yet, and I'm more likely to scan something or make movies before I do.

If you want to check this DVD's figures against information from some manufacturer, this DVD is recommending a minimum of 1.3 megapixel camera for 1280 x 960 pixels printing good at 3 inches by 4 inches, and a 2.1 megapixel camera for 1600 x 1200 pixel pictures, though a 3 megapixel camera should be used for 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 prints, and a 4 or 5 megapixel camera would produce clear larger prints or posters. I also think transferring every good set of pictures to a CD is worth doing in a format large enough to fill a computer screen, so anyone who is interested can see all the pictures one at a time. I took some pictures in the park that look like a big lawn, but if you can get close enough to anything to make it fill a computer screen, you might get a good picture.

Customer Review: Great for mom & dad

I recently purchased a copy of this DVD for my parents (now in their 60's) and it helped conquer their digital fears and made them competent digital photographers in a very short time. Now we speak the same language. Wish there was a DVD that made using computers easy - they could use that now!

I'd recommend this for anyone who has limited knowledge of digital photography and sharing photos online. It walks you through everything!

Customer Review: Very good bang for the buck

I bought this as my first telescope to explore the sky and I am VERY pleased. It's a high quality scope, and the mount and tripod are the kind you get with higher end models. Mine came with an incorrect piece, I contacted the Celestron, and I had a new piece in 3 days. Very nice service. I to had problems finding stars at first, so I went to an astronomy forum and found out the correct way to do it. From there, I haven't had a problem finding anything.

The 2 main things are 1) calibrate your finder first and 2) use the right eye piece when looking for something (this scope comes with a 10mm and a 20mm, so you would want to use the 20 to find and 10 to magnify once you found what it is your looking for). I have found Astronomy is not a hobby where you can easily learn stuff through trial and error, and most frustration comes when you try just that.

The only thing it's lacking is an eyepiece that goes to it's full magnification. I'm buying a 5mm for this, but if they included that, they would have to up the price. So all in all, this in my opinion is the best bang for the buck telescope out there for beginners on a budget!

Customer Review: A basic tool for a basic user

This item was a good buy for our 10-year old, especially at the reduced price I paid. Set up was somewhat difficult for a beginner, and the weights provided were not enough to fully balance the telescope. However, good enough if you keep in mind that's not fully balanced. When the said up was complete it looked great and worked well.

The major problem we have is locating the stars...even when we seem to have the telescope pointing straight at a star, haven't been able to locate them. The powerseeker is of limited help. I presume this will come with experience.

Overall a good buy.

I have this vacuum about two years. Worked fine, but now it only has enough power for about 15 minutes or so. Seems like the rechargeable batteries no longer work. It also doesn't hold much dirt. For quick picker ups it's substantial (don't expect it to work like your full size vacuum).

Digital Camera Rating Guide

Many of us use digital cameras to take our pictures for a variety of functions and events. We need a good digital camera to take these fantastic pictures. To help us with choosing a good digital camera we can use digital camera ratings. These ratings will enable us to select the camera that will be suited for our photographic abilities.

To see if we have found a reliable way to choose a digital camera we can look at digital camera buyer?s guides, or photography magazines to select the criteria that will help us. These various digital camera ratings will let us see how the different digital cameras perform in value for money, the handling of the camera, the performance of the camera and the various features that can be found.

When we look at the digital camera ratings for cameras like Minolta, Nikon and Pentax we need to see the performance of these types of digital cameras in different digital camera ratings. The ratings will briefly cover the aspects of how good the optics in the digital camera of your choice is.

The rating should state if you have a digital camera that will provide you with pictures that are clear and sharp. You will also need to know if you are selecting a digital camera that is good for an absolute beginner to digital photography, a semi-serious photographer, an individual who is taking pictures for as a hobby.

Additionally the different digital cameras must be useable by the professional photographer. With the digital camera ratings you can also investigate how the camera?s handling is. You will need to what your selected digital cameras, like the Canon Rebel Digital XT, feels like as you take pictures in different situations.

This means that you should see if there is any way to hold the camera comfortably. The digital camera ratings will inform you about the control layout. You should be able to read and understand what is on the control layout. With a digital camera rating you can also see what types of features are found on the digital camera.

These various features will let you see if there is a menu system that will let you navigate through the different items that you have on your selection of digital cameras. When you look through the different digital camera ratings you should note how the exposure and the metering modes are for the various digital cameras.

With this newfound knowledge of the digital camera ratings tucked under your belt, it will become easy enough for you to choose a new digital camera.

If your interest is strictly watching whales, spotting birds, viewing nature, orchecking out your favorite star or planet the altazimuth-mount

Customer Review: Could be better

I have this vacuum about two years. Worked fine, but now it only has enough power for about 15 minutes or so. Seems like the rechargeable batteries no longer work. It also doesn't hold much dirt. For quick picker ups it's substantial (don't expect it to work like your full size vacuum).

Today's minolta digital camera Article

Digital Camera Advantages

The digital camera is one the popular inventions that are out there. There are a lot of us that enjoy the use of a digital camera no mater what make and model. We like being able to see the picture that you have just taken and decide right then and there if you would like to keep the picture or just trash it if you don't like how it turned out and try again.

There is also the option to purchase a memory card that you can get for digital cameras that would allow you to take more pictures without have to change film so often. Some of the memory cards can double or triple the memory space that you can save the pictures on.

Another advantage is that you save the time that you would normally have to wait for the film to be developed. This would also include the expense of paying for pictures that you did not want for that did not turn out because of the end of the film or double exposure due to bad film. You could even save more money when you have the printer that is capable of printing them out at home.

One other advantage is that you can take pictures of a moving object and it does give as much of a blur. There are even digital cameras out there that you can even make little movies with.

That makes it perfect if you are on a family outing and you happen to see the kids or adults doing something that you just don't want to miss showing other people just how goofy they can be out there in public.

There is always the option to put it on your computer and make any changes that you would so desire such as red eye reduction or even cropping another digital picture onto one another. Moreover, when it is on your computer you even have the option to share the picture with friends and family with the use of email or making a slide show to share all your happy and eventful moments with everyone else.

Apple Aperture 2.0 Upgrade

Apple Aperture 2.0 Upgrade
Aperture 2, Apple's groundbreaking photo editing and management software, delivers more than 100 new features that make it dramatically faster and easier to use and even more powerful. Featuring a streamlined user interface, Aperture 2 provides accelerated performance with its optimized database and new Quick Preview mode for rapid-fire browsing. Thanks to advanced image processing with powerful new tools--such as Recovery, Vibrancy, Vignette, and a soft-edged Retouch brush--you'll get the most out of every image. And thanks to integrated .Mac Web Gallery support, you can showcase your work on the web in minutes. From importing images to publishing them online or in print, Aperture 2 helps you realize your creative vision.

Please note: This is the upgrade version.

Aperture 2, Apple's groundbreaking photo editing and management software, gives photographers powerful tools to manage massive libraries, speed through photo edits, make essential image adjustments, and deliver photos online or in print with ease.

The Essential Tool from Import to Output
Aperture 2 has been designed to help photographers import, manage, enhance, and deliver photos in a single, integrated workflow that dramatically streamlines every aspect of digital photography.

Import images fast--manage them professionally
Aperture starts its flexible, fast image import the moment you attach a camera or memory card to your Mac. It instantly displays thumbnails of every image and offers streamlined ways to add copyright, keywords, and other metadata during import. You can also import photos from cameras, card readers, memory cards, DVDs, and hard drives, or pull shots directly from iPhoto.

Once the images are in your library, you can organize them logically by using Aperture projects, folders, albums, and Smart Albums. Find images quickly with powerful search tools that let you search by any metadata field or image adjustment. And the flexible and open library system lets you store your images wherever and however you like--directly in Aperture, on external drives, even on a network storage device. The robust file management tools allow you to easily move your original photos to a new storage location at any time, so you'll never run out of space for your library as it continues to grow.

Find images quickly with powerful search tools that let you search by any metadata field or image adjustment.

Aperture adjustment tools help you make your best photos look even better.

Make selects quickly and easily
After adding hundreds of new photos to your library, Aperture provide the fastest and most efficient way to review them all and pick the very best. Aperture lets you edit photo shoots using tools such as Quick Preview mode for rapid-fire image review and Compare mode for easily evaluating images side by side. With Aperture, you can even zoom and pan multiple images at once for tight comparisons before making a pick.

You can use the stacks feature to automatically group images shot in a sequence, and speed through big projects using keyboard shortcuts to apply ratings and keywords.

The Light Table gives you a freeform space for grouping images visually, letting you resize, overlay, compare, and organize images into comp layouts.

Adjust and enhance images precisely
Aperture adjustment tools help you make your best photos look even better. Aperture takes you far beyond the basics of straightening, cropping, and improving exposure. Powerful toning controls let you correct exposure, fix white balance, set black point, enhance colors, and recover blown highlights and shadow detail. The softedged Retouch Brush removes spots, dust, and blemishes precisely. The new Vibrancy and Definition tools let you selectively enhance detail and saturation in specific areas of an image.

Copying adjustments from one image to another is simple using the Lift and Stamp tool, which allows you to batch-process adjustments on multiple images with one click. And because all adjustments are nondestructive, you don't have to worry about damaging your original master images. Aperture never touches them.

Take the final steps and showcase your best work
Aperture makes it easy to delivery professional photos online or in print. With flexible export options and integrated online and print publishing capabilities built into Aperture, showcasing your work has never been easier.

Flexible export option
Save finished photos as JPEG, TIFF, or PSD. Output at exactly the size and resolution you want, embed ICC color profiles and metadata, and protect your photos with a watermark when you publish. Send photos to colleagues via Mail. Include the photos in iLife or iWork documents, taking advantage of the direct integration of Aperture with iMovie, Keynote, Pages, and other applications.3 Sync them directly to your iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV. Or use an Aperture export plug-in to send photos to Flickr, SmugMug, Gallery, Zenfolio, or Picasa.

Publish online
Aperture offers fully integrated .Mac Web Gallery support, so you can publish a portfolio using your .Mac account in minutes. Use your password-protected Web Gallery to deliver photos, letting others download JPEG or original RAW masters directly from your site. One-click syncing means any changes made in the galleries are reflected in Aperture and on the web instantly. With the effortless HTML-based Web Page and Web Journal options of Aperture, photographers have the tools they need for instant, effective web publishing.

Professional-quality books to order
Aperture provides all the tools you need to create custom-designed books in small, medium, and large formats. You can place, resize, rotate, and mask photos, so your book looks exactly the way you want. Hardcover books include a full-bleed, wraparound dust jacket. Choose from eight elegant designed themes, adjust to your own specifications, then place your order--all right within Aperture.

High-quality printing
With new built-in support for 16-bit printing, Aperture lets you produce high-quality prints with smoother gradients and better color fidelity. The new Print dialog also features print sharpening controls for fine-tuning sharpness for print. You can also order traditional lab prints directly from Aperture in a variety of sizes (wallet size to 20 by 30 inches).

The new Quick Preview mode in Aperture is a lightning-fast way to speed through high-quality image previews, browse and compare photos, and make selects with virtually no lag time.

Optimized for Speed
With Aperture 2, virtually every photo management task across the workflow is faster, thanks to powerful new preview and search options, a more streamlined user interface, and a more responsive database.

The new Quick Preview mode in Aperture--combined with its unmatched compare and select tools, Loupe, multi-image zooming, and Smart Albums--provides the fastest and most efficient way to edit a photo shoot. Switching between projects, scrolling through thumbnails, and searches are all dramatically faster. Exporting images is now a background operation, allowing you to keep working as Aperture renders your finished images. In addition, Aperture significantly improves the performance of certain processor-intensive adjustment tasks such as noise reduction, and Highlights & Shadows.

Quick Preview
The new Quick Preview mode in Aperture is a lightning-fast way to speed through high-quality image previews, browse and compare photos, and make selects with virtually no lag time. Quick Preview simply tells Aperture to load only the preview of each photo when it is selected, rather than decoding and loading the full-size master image. This means photographers can scan through a shoot rapidly, make preliminary selects, and sort photos, edit metadata, and build albums faster than ever. The feature takes advantage of the embedded JPEG previews that are created in-camera by most cameras when shooting RAW images, or uses the preview that Aperture generates after import. Quick Preview is easy to toggle off whenever the full-resolution image is needed (to make image adjustments, for example).

The revamped database in Aperture 2 is the key to dramatically faster searching and sorting, even when working with very large libraries.

Sophisticated Aperture metadata tools make metadata tagging and editing rapid and effortless, at any stage of the workflow, even in full-screen mode.

The visual keyboard interface for the Command Editor makes it easy to modify shortcut keys or create new ones.

Faster and More Powerful Searches
Rebuilt from the ground up, the revamped database in Aperture 2 is the key to dramatically faster searching and sorting, even when working with very large libraries. Powerful new search features, unavailable elsewhere, include the ability to search for images by adjustment (find all black-and-white images, for example) and to perform complex searches based on any combination of metadata fields. This gives photographers incredible flexibility in sorting their libraries, allowing them to quickly locate any images that have had a specific filter, adjustment, or metadata tag applied to them.

Advanced Metadata Support
Sophisticated Aperture metadata tools make metadata tagging and editing rapid and effortless, at any stage of the workflow, even in full-screen mode. New features include the ability to embed IPTC metadata directly into master RAW files on export. And photographers can now precisely adjust the time and date stamps of images by a specific offset, to easily correct in-camera errors or to sync multicamera shoots.

Background Export
Aperture now exports images in the background, so photographers can continue their work uninterrupted while their final images are rendered and exported--an enormous time-saver. Clicking on the Activity indicator in the Viewer toolbar opens the Activity Window, which provides the status of all background operations in progress.

Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts
Aperture speeds tasks even more by letting photographers create their own keyboard shortcuts. The visual keyboard interface for the Command Editor makes it easy to modify shortcut keys or create new ones. And the ability to save an unlimited number of shortcut sets for different users or tasks, and to easily switch between shortcut sets, means that multiple users can work in the way that's most efficient for them. The Command Editor can also be used to look up existing keyboard shortcuts.

Faster Navigation and Scrolling
The combination of major database improvements and a revamped thumbnail browser optimized for speed gives Aperture dramatically improved performance across the workflow. Photographers will notice incredibly fast thumbnail browsing and scrolling, minimal load time when switching between projects, as well as performance improvements when applying certain processor-intensive adjustments such as Noise Reduction and Highlights & Shadows.

Tethered Camera Support
The new Tether command in Aperture lets users of popular Nikon and Canon digital SLRs tether their cameras to their Mac and capture images directly into Aperture, without relying on third-party software or scripting. It's easy to set up and provides studio photographers with immediate, full-screen feedback while they shoot.

The Show iPhoto Library command makes it easy to browse your entire iPhoto library from right within Aperture, and drag selected iPhoto imagesÑor even entire albums or projectsÑinto Aperture projects.

Intuitive and Accessible
No other professional workflow application offers the ease and depth of Aperture photo management and editing tools, including a streamlined interface that's easy to navigate and puts tools where you need them. The new, all-in-one Inspector makes it easier than ever to work efficiently in Full Screen mode, while the simplified browser lets you scan through photos and switch between viewing modes more efficiently. The innovative All Projects view gives photographers a quick visual overview of their entire library. And to help Aperture newcomers get up to speed fast, Aperture ships with a set of useful sample projects and 50 online video tutorials.

Streamlined User Interface
The simplified user interface of Aperture is more intuitive and makes it easier to switch between viewing modes, so that your workspace is always optimized for the task at hand. A new Hide Browser option gives you maximum screen real estate for images, books, web pages, and light tables. You can cycle through the three remaining viewing modes--Viewer Only, Browser Only, and split Viewer/Browser--with a single keystroke for maximum efficiency. And the new Filmstrip view in the browser makes shuttling through thumbnails of large photo projects easier than ever.

All-in-One Inspector
The new consolidated Inspector brings together the Projects, Metadata, and Adjustments Inspectors into one tabbed panel, maximizing screen space and making it easy to work efficiently in Full Screen mode. You can switch to the panel you need with a single keystroke, and stay in Full Screen mode while you add and edit metadata, switch between projects, and apply corrections and adjustments.

Innovative Project Skimming
In the new All Projects view, each Aperture project appears as a single thumbnail image--similar to the Events view in iPhoto--for easy visual skimming of all the projects in your library. You can slide your mouse pointer across a project to quickly skim the photos inside, define a Key Photo for each project to serve as the "poster" image, and double-click a thumbnail to instantly open a project and go directly to the selected image.

iPhoto Browser
Aperture also makes it easier for iPhoto users to dive in and get great results with their images. The Show iPhoto Library command makes it easy to browse your entire iPhoto library from right within Aperture, and drag selected iPhoto images--or even entire albums or projects--into Aperture projects.

The simplified user interface of Aperture is more intuitive and makes it easier to switch between viewing modes, so that your workspace is always optimized for the task at hand.

Switch to the panel you need with a single keystroke, and stay in Full Screen mode while you add and edit metadata, switch between projects, and apply corrections and adjustments.

A true soft-edged brush tool, the new Retouch Brush removes blemishes, dust spots, or other unwanted elements with precision.

Sample Projects
Aperture ships with four complete sample projects of professional images--including full-resolution RAW files--that are perfect for experimentation and learning. Some of the projects include adjusted images to help you understand how the adjustment and enhancement tools can be used most effectively. In addition, the projects include sample books, web pages, Light Tables, albums, and Smart Albums, so you can explore your output options by experimenting with these ready-made professional examples.

Online Video Tutorials
Aperture includes a direct link to 50 video tutorials, each focused on a specific task in the Aperture workflow--from importing photos to making final prints. With nearly two full hours of video content, the targeted tutorials bring newcomers up to speed fast and help existing Aperture users get the most out of the new features.

Aperture introduces an unparalleled level of quality to RAW image handling, with an all-new RAW decode engine that delivers superior images with less noise, better detail, powerful highlight recovery, and improved color rendering.

Powerful Image Processing
Aperture provides all the essential tools that photographers need to get the highest possible quality out of their images, whether shooting RAW or JPEG. The application has been built around an all-new RAW processing engine that delivers remarkable quality that can be further enhanced with an arsenal of simple but powerful adjustment tools. Powerful new image adjustment and enhancement tools give photographers what they need to correct exposure, adjust tone, and refine images in more precise and powerful ways, all nondestructively. For even more control, innovative RAW fine-tuning controls let photographers perfect their renders on an image-by-image basis.

Next-Generation RAW Image Processing
Aperture introduces an unparalleled level of quality to RAW image handling, with an all-new RAW decode engine that delivers superior images with less noise, better detail, powerful highlight recovery, and improved color rendering. You can selectively migrate existing images from the 1.x to 2.0 RAW decode, so you control which images in your library are re-rendered. Aperture supports 100 different RAW formats from today's leading cameras--including Adobe's DNG format--plus JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files. And the new Baseline DNG support means that even users of cameras with RAW formats not natively supported in Mac OS X can work with their images in Aperture.

Highlight Recovery and Black Point
Powerful new tools let you correct exposure and enhance images with precision, giving you a wider range of artistic control over how your images are rendered, and rescuing previously unsalvageable highlight and shadow detail. The new Recovery slider offers remarkably effective recovery of "blown" highlights. A new Black Point slider on the Exposure brick speeds up toning, making it easier to set a black point and adjust the shadow areas of an image independently from the midtones and highlights.

Vibrancy and Definition
Two new adjustments add remarkable detail and punch to your images. Vibrancy applies saturation selectively to unsaturated hues only and protects skin tones for more pleasing and realistic results. Definition adds superb clarity by applying local contrast to images to accentuate detail.

Vignette and Devignette
The new Vignette filter lets you apply either gamma- or exposure-based vignettes around the edges of your images for artistic effect. Exposure vignettes simulate lens-created vignetting by reducing exposure at the edges of an image. Gamma vignettes apply a gamma adjustment to pixels in the vignette area, resulting in a more pronounced effect. Devignette lets you easily correct existing vignetting problems, removing unwanted optical vignetting where dark or shadowed areas appear at the periphery of images.

Retouch Brush
A true soft-edged brush tool, the new Retouch Brush removes blemishes, dust spots, or other unwanted elements with precision. You can specify the brush softness and opacity for precise control over the desired effect. A Detect Edges option helps you preserve image detail when repairing spots adjacent to hard edges. In Clone mode, you can easily clone pixels from one portion of an image and paint them over problem areas to make perfect visual repairs with multiple undos.

RAW Fine-Tuning
An expanded set of RAW fine-tuning controls give photographers even more control over tuning Apple's RAW decode on an image-by-image basis. Hue Boost, which lets you control the degree to which hues are preserved when the default tonal response curve is applied, can be particularly useful when rendering saturated highlights such as sunsets. The Moire control reduces unwanted color fringing and patterning that can sometimes appear in RAW images due to a moire effect.

Highlight Hot and Cold Pixels
Highlight Hot and Cold Pixels is a new overlay option that makes it easy to see exactly which pixels in an image are completely white or black, so you can adjust tones and set a perfect black point. Aperture also includes out-of-range pixel overlays, which can be invoked on the fly by holding down the Command key while using the Exposure, Levels, Recovery, and Black Point tools. Photographers can choose between Color or Monochrome overlays.

New integration with .Mac Web Gallery means photos can be published from Aperture to a password-protected photo web gallery on .Mac with just a few clicks.

Enhanced Output
This seamless integration of Aperture with the rest of the Mac platform makes it a complete output solution. With built-in support for 16-bit printing and integrated print sharpening, Aperture produces superior-quality prints more easily than ever. Plus, the expanded book features let you design and publish one-of-a-kind, professional books with new sizes, themes, finishes and layout tools.6 And Aperture gives photographers the tools they need for instant, effective web publishing as well as essential access to their portfolios on their iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV.

Publishing to .Mac Web Gallery
New integration with .Mac Web Gallery means photos can be published from Aperture to a password-protected photo web gallery on .Mac with just a few clicks. Visitors can view photos, download high-quality JPEG images or even RAW master files, and post their own images from any computer on any platform. One-click syncing makes it easy to keep published web albums completely up-to-date. When combined with the effortless HTML-based Web Page and Web Journal options that Aperture offers, photographers have the tools they need for instant, effective web publishing.

16-Bit Print Support
Aperture produces superior-quality print output more easily than ever. Built-in support for 16-bit printer drivers from leading manufacturers means high-quality print output with smoother gradients and better color fidelity. And integrated print sharpening lets you dial in the exact amount of sharpening your printer needs, giving you sharper prints with more detail.

Custom Book Options
Aperture has expanded its photo book layout tools to make it easier to create one-of-a-kind photo books, professionally printed and bound by Apple and delivered to your door.6 Choose from eight professionally designed layout themes--two of which are new--as a starting point, but make the book your own by customizing the layout and adding your own borders to photo and text boxes. Books are available in three different sizes. New finishing options include foil-stamped hardcovers and dust jackets. Publishing your images as high-quality books was never easier.

Customer Review: Apple Aperture 2. upgrade

Apple Aperture 2.0 Upgrade This is a much improved version of a good product. It contains a section called "Image Adjustments" that is worth a print out. Using the example pictures will aid in understanding the adjustments. You will need to spend several months to become an expert. A printed manual would be nice to have. New books on the upgraded program would also be great.

Customer Review: Much Improved!

A tremendous jump from previous 1.5 version. Was avoiding even using Aperture cause it seemed like it had a lot of features that allowed variations in the looks of the program but did not have a lot of picture adjustment and editing tools. Not so with 2.0, like I said a tremendous jump in useful features. Aperture 2.0 is more than just a photo editor in the makes of Photoshop. More so it is a picture file management software. I beleive with forethought a medium to high level amatuer can move to the next level with this software. I downloaded the Users Manual from Apple.com/aperture under Resources tab. It is a 702 page PDF. You can check it out. It will give you detailed info about this softwares capability.

I especially like the Publishing aspect of this software. You can create pages and publish directly to web, or create and publish Hardcover, softcove, or spiral bound books with relative ease. Using pre-loaded templates for both web publishing or book creation, getting your product exposure in a very short amount of time.

For those of you who were overwhelmed and confused about the real direction 1.5 was trying to take you the 2.0 upgrade is worth pursuing.

I congratulate Apple for taking this product seriously and remolding it to better suit a photographers creative thought and distribution processes, and not just a software that software designers could appreciate.
