Digital Camera For Digital Printing

The world is going digital and people are crazy bout the hi-tech gadgets available in the market. But significantly paving the way is one of the hottest consumer products of the 21st century - the digital camera. Most people want to capture and store their precious moment forever in a form of pictures. And photography plays an important role in this business.

Digital photography has evolved over the past few years into a highly affordable luxury that some could not be without and cannot afford to loose it. If you are new to the world of digital cameras, let Office Shop Direct be your guide to their large array of product specifications.

Price ranges are a very big consideration and are mainly based on high-end specifications such as resolution, compression and zoom options. Cutting corners on some of these details will save you in the long run, but you should be sure what you are missing out on before you make that decision.

Important Items to Keep in Mind about Digital Camera Technology:

Interpolation is a method in which a camera will fill in the color holes in the pixels of a picture by estimating color blends. While this can improve resolution, it will also reduce the sharpness and contrast of a picture. Never get a camera that is low in resolution but high in interpolation if you want sharp bright pictures.

Compression routines are the way the picture is stored digitally. Some companies maintain their own proprietary compression method, and this can make sharing images difficult. JPEG is the standard, but also as with most standards can have less clarity in a picture. Consider cameras that also offer the ability to print off images at no compression for best results.

SLR is short for single-lens reflex viewfinder. Many cameras have two views: that which the user sees to set up the shot, and that which the camera sees. If you have an SLR camera both what you see and what the camera shoots are lined up as one, and not slightly off on a different angle.

Having an amazing photo shot is easy; following the above mentioned important tips will surely give you an exceptional picture. Capture your best moment with best digital camera and quality printing application.

Lenmar PRO1025 2500mAh Rechargeable AA NiHM Battery 10 Pack
LENMAR PRO1025 AA NIMH BATTERIES, 10 PK 1.2V; 2500 MAH; LASTS UP TO 1000X LONGER THAN ALKALINE BATTERIES; FITS ALL DEVICES THAT USE AA BATTERIES; 10 PK

Customer Review: 0 OUT 10 REACHED 2500 mAH

These batteries were good a few years ago (the blue batteries). I got these a few months ago and I was displeased with how bad they were. My previous Lenmars (the blue ones) were awesome and they charged to almost 1800 mAH every time. These 2500 versions barely get to 1000 mAH. Also if you do decide you want to buy this brand, try charging all the batteries right away. 2 out of the 10 didn't even charge (DOA)with my La Crosse charger or an Lenmar charger.

Customer Review: Great product, great price, fast delivery

We have been using Lenmar 2500 mah batteries in our business for some time as we find these hold up well over time. We received these as expected for a great price. No problems here whatsoever. We will continue to use Amazon as our first choice when buying these and other great products.

Duracell Mobile Charger With 2AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF23DX2

Duracell Mobile Charger With 2AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF23DX2
Customer Review: Versatile battery-charger with dual-personality

The Duracell Mobile Charger (CEF23) is an extremely versatile charger. It actually has two operating modes, as selected by the MODE button:

1. As an AA/AAA NiMH battery charger, or

2. As an USB charger for USB-powered devices.

In battery-charger mode, the unit is a smart charger that accepts 1-4 AA/AAA cells in any combinations. The charger can be powered by either 100-240V universal AC input, or 12V DC input. This means you can also operate it from your vehicle's cigarette lighter adapter. Note that the car adapter is included in the CEF23DX4N, but not in the CEF23DX2.

The charging current is 550mA for each cell. So it takes about 4 hours to full charge up the included 2100mAh low-self-discharge cells (which are the Duracell-equivalent of Sanyo eneloop). I consider this a good compromise between shorter charging time and longer battery lifespan.

One really nice feature of this charger is that it has four individual battery status indicator lights. The status light for each cell turns RED when charging, GREEN when the cell is fully charged. It will even blink if you accidentally inserted an alkaline cell.

In USB charger mode, the unit generates a regulated 5-volt supply at its USB socket. You can then connect an USB-powered device (such as IPOD charger) to this unit. Input power for this USB charger can be from one of the following sources:

1. From 100-240V universal AC input,

2. From 12V DC input (car adapter), or

3. From four AA/AAA NiMH cells in the battery compartment.

The third way is the most interesting, because in case of emergency, you can even use 4 alkaline cells to power this USB charger, in order to charge up your cell phone's battery.

I must say that this charger is really well designed. It is a great bargain even if all you need is a simple battery charger. The USB charger mode is just an extra bonus.

Underwater Digital Cameras 101 For Landlubbers

First came the camera. Then there was the underwater camera. After that came the digital camera ? and now we have underwater digital cameras. Underwater digital cameras are ideal for capturing the beauty of the undersea world (or the bottom of your swimming pool if you have that special artistic eye!). They are used by both scientists and scuba divers. Digital cameras come in many well-known brands including Kodak, Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Olympus. Surprisingly enough, the cheapest brands cost less than $200, although prices rise quite steeply for the highest quality cameras.

Some of the advantages of underwater digital cameras include:

- You can plug them into a TV.

- They are smaller and lighter than film cameras

- Bad shots can be easily deleted

- They can change resolution, which is useful for wide-angle photography in low lighting conditions underwater

- They produce better high-resolution shots

- They never run out of film (because they don't use film!)

- They have better depth of field (up to 4 times that of film cameras)

- They feature strobe shutter speeds as fast as 1/800th of a second, much faster than even the best film cameras

- Applications include sea mode, land mode, and external flash mode

Here are some examples of the best underwater digital cameras:

1. The Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1000

It has a 2. 8 inch LCD screen and 10 megapixels. Housing is required. Up to 3,2000 ISO. 3x optical zoom lens, and it even includes an anti-shake feature.

2. The Pentax Optio

It has a 2.5 inch LCD screen and 7 megapixels. It requires no additional housing. Usable for up to half an hour in depths of up to 5 feet. It can even be used for shooting underwater videos. Up to 1,600 ISO.

3. Fuji Film FinePix A400

Complete with waterproof housing, 4.2 megapixels. What's more, it's CHEAP - under $200 at the time of this writing).

4. SeaLife DC500

Includes both Land and sea flash modes. 5 megapixels, 3x optical zoom. Features an anti-shake function that compensates for movement by either the photographer or the subject.

The foregoing is only a small smaple of the total range of brands, cameras, and features available for photographers of almost any budget and any level of sophistication.

Nikon D80 inBrief Camera Reference Card

Nikon D80 inBrief Camera Reference Card
Digital SLR cameras come with many controls and settings that allow you to capture the perfect exposure. Remembering where they are and exactly how they work together is a difficult, if not impossible task.
You can carry the user manual in your bag, but in most cases, it s over one hundred pages long. Finding the answer to your question can be a frustrating experience.
The inBrief camera reference card is a laminated, foldable guide that answers most camera operation questions quickly and easily. The information is arranged logically so you can find the answer to you question in the shortest time possible.
Each inBrief card shows an annotated line drawing of the camera and an index to the information on the other panels. If you have a question about white balance, simply look at the purple panel. Answers to custom settings are always on the green panel.
The inBrief card has laminated hinges so the card lies flat. When folded, the dimensions are 5.5 inches by 4.25 inches. It fits neatly in the outside pocket of your camera bag for instant access.
Each card is subdivided into twelve color-coded panels. An overview of the information on each panel is listed below.
Teal: Annotated line drawing and general index
Blue: Viewfinder, Control panel, and Monitor displays
Red: Camera functions by exposure mode and flash information
Lime: Focus, Drive Modes, and Self-Timer
Yellow: Exposure, Metering, Bracketing
Purple: White Balance, ISO, Image Size / Quality
Orange: Displaying Images, Resetting the camera
Green: Custom Settings and Functions

Each card is professionally printed on 10 point card stock and laminated on each side for long wear and protection from the elements. Once you have an inBrief, you can leave your manual at home.

Customer Review: Not Worth It

Not helpful at all. Overpriced. The manual and/or a field guide are much more informative. I never use this.

Customer Review: Very informative and useful product

This is a great reference card for the D80. The D80 is an amazing camera and this card is great to have in the bag when you need a quick hint while snapping pictures. Just make sure you have your reading glassed with you if you have trouble with small print. My arms aren't as long as they used to be, so I put a pair in my camera bag. I would recommend this to anyone with a D80.

Digital beasts: six great D-SLRs and superzooms (Independent)

Nature doesn't always behave itself. Where a human subject may be amenable to waiting and smiling for the camera, animals have their own agendas. So, while many cameras have advanced features, not all of them are helpful for nature photography. Face detection systems – where the camera recognises faces and focuses on them automatically – are mostly redundant, as with very few exceptions they ...

Camera Shake and Image Stabilization (Vibration Reduction)

When you are first buying camera equipment you see a lot of lenses that have the IS or VR designations on them. This is Image Stabilization or Vibration Reduction. They mean the same thing except Canon uses the first term and Nikon uses the second. These are mechanisms built into the camera lens to prevent "camera shake". I will discuss how to get rid of camera shake and why I purchased a VR lens for myself.

What is Camera Shake?

When you are holding your camera in your hands and looking through the view finder to take your photo, your body is making slight movements. This is a natural thing as your body is always correcting itself and your muscles move to help maintain your balance. However, it causes slight movements in your camera. When your camera is zoomed in on a subject that is a reasonable distance away, these slight movements become more noticeable.

For example. If your hand slightly shakes and turns your camera 1 degree off its line of direction and your subject is 15 feet away, this would correspond to 3.1 inches being added in the direction your camera turned. Now say that the movement of your hand happened when you took your picture and while the shutter was open. This would blur the image on film or on your digital image.

How Do I Prevent My Pictures From Blurring?

There are 3 ways to prevent this.

  1. Make sure you have a shutter speed fast enough so that your hand movements don't affect the picture.
  2. Use a tripod.
  3. Have a lens with vibration reduction or image stabilization.

Each of these methods have their pros and cons.

1. Have a Fast Enough Shutter Speed

Ideally, you would want this situation every time. The rule of thumb is that you need a shutter speed of 1 over the focal length your lens is set at. So if you are zoomed all the way in with your 300mm lens, you would want 1/300 second shutter speed or better (so 1/320 on the standard camera). This will usually guarantee (for the average user) the shutter won't be open long enough to make your hand movements noticeable on the final image If you have steady hands you will be able to get away with a slower speed. The catch here is will you have enough light to expose your picture. If it is the middle of a bright day you are fine. If it is darker you might have to use a more sensitive film, but this will cause your picture to be grainier.

Note: When you see expensive lenses with the same zoom capability as a cheaper lens, look at the maximum aperture for this lens. Chances are it will be a lot larger than the cheaper one. F/2.8 is a common one. The lower the number, the larger the aperture can go. This means a lot more light will get let in when you take the picture, so it will be able to have higher shutter speeds.

2. Use a Tri-pod

This will always work. Now you can have the shutter open as long as your want and the image won't have any blurring (this is assuming your subject isn't moving or is moving slowly). Tripods are cumbersome and annoying however. And they definitely don't work in a lot of circumstances, especially traveling.

3. Use a Lens With Image Stabilization or Vibration Reduction

This is "meet in the middle" approach as you still need a decent shutter speed, but you won't need a tripod and its cheaper than a fast lens. Inside the camera there is a mechanism to adjust the glass lenses slightly to compensate for the movements of your hand. IS and VR will give you a few shutter speed stops back. So if you can't quite get enough light to have 1/320 sec shutter speed as in the example above. VR will let you go down to 1/125 sec (4 full stops in ideal situations). A lot of times, this will give you enough light to properly expose your image. VR and IS will make a lens cost extra, but they are still cheaper than buying the fast lenses I spoke of above. Fast lenses don't usually have much zoom capability either (a limitation of having such a large aperture).

The main article has an example of two images. One was taken without VR turned on and the other had VR on. This is a picture in my home taken with my Nikon D70s with the Nikon 18-200mm VR lens.

To summarize. The cheapest solution is to buy a tripod, the second is to buy a lens with IS or VR, and the most expensive is to buy "fast" lenses. I am a casual photographer and use it more for traveling so VR has been the best option for myself. If you find yourself with similar needs and want to eliminate camera shake from more of your photos, then I would definitely recommend looking at VR and IS lenses.

Corel Photo Album 6 Deluxe

Corel Photo Album 6 Deluxe
Corel's Photo Album 6 unlocks the magicofyour digital camera. This smart and simple software automatically takes care of common photo tasks like downloading&organizing, so you can spend your time having fun with your photos. PHOTORECOVERY software helps you recover accidentally deleted photos

Customer Review: major disappointment

Corel acquired Photo Album 6 from JASC and then promptly abandoned development, leaving a host of unresolved problems, ranging in severity from annoying to quite serious. Here are just a few examples:

1. The "View/Sort Thumbnails" setting is not remembered, i.e., if you want to see thumbnails sorted by name, you must specify this every time you open the application.

2. Photo Album 6 settings sometimes get corrupted. Corel's only solution for this is to open the "Application Data" folder for the current user and then delete the "Corel Photo Album" folder. This resets the database, which has several undesirable side effects, e.g., all keywords and descriptions are lost, and the program forgets all favorite folder selections.

3. There is no good mechanism for transferring the database from one computer to another. In particular, there is no way to merge two databases together, i.e., one database must overwrite the other.

4. There is no way to control the text size in menus. In particular, there is no way to increase the text size in the "Favorite Folders" or "All Folders" lists, a significant problem for users with poor vision.

Given the length of time that has elapsed, it has become clear that these and hundreds of other problems with Photo Album will never be fixed.

On top of all this, Corel technical support is surly and unhelpful.

I am now looking for a suitable alternative to replace this application.

Customer Review: So Far, Not So Good

I purchased this product new for my mom and sister-in-law with no grand expectations about what I had ordered. Imagine my surprise then when one of the products arrived in a re-used bubble envelope (folded inside-out with the previous customer's name in the return address line) and the other in a regular USPS Priority Mail box. If this was the only issue, I would not have bothered writing a review but the CD itself came in an unmarked paper envelope without any packaging, leading me to wonder if this product was really new.

I have come to expect better of Amazon and do not think the vendor and distributor should be showing a picture of a software package in promoting this item since what you see is not what you get.

As for the merits of this product, the jury is still out but so far its seller and Amazon have left a bad first impression.

Sealife Mini Wide Angle Lens SL960

Sealife Mini Wide Angle Lens SL960
For those moments when you just need to get everything in the shot! A must have lens for divers. Get closer to the subject and still fit everything into the picture. Fits SeaLife ReefMaster Mini (SL320) and ECOshot (SL321) digital cameras. See the difference!

Customer Review: Be sure...

to attach a string from the wide-angle lense to the camera.

Due to the lense blocking out the flash you will need to take the lense off frequently in order to take flash pictures. If you don't attach it to the camera it is fairly easy to re-mount it incorrectly and have it fall off.

Fortunately someone else on my dive found mine and returned it.

Case Logic Large Digital Camera Case

Case Logic Large Digital Camera Case
Nylon camcorder case holds compact camcorder, digital or 35mm camera and accessories. Weather-resistant and thickly-padded, this case protects delicate equipment.

Customer Review: Excellent camera bag

This bag holds my Camcorder (a Canon ZR model), my digital camera (a canon P&S), extra batteries for each camera, extra CF cards, and 2 mini DV tapes. It can be worn on either the shoulder or belt. I took this all through Europe and it performed magnificently. To be able to walk around with both of my cameras and accessories, almost unobtrusively, on my belt made our vacation so much more enjoyable. Excellent product.

Customer Review: Great bag, great price

This bag works great for my Panasonic FZ18, it even fits the hood, just barely though, and it has a front pouch for memory cards, batteries, cables, snacks, whatever you need. This is a great camera bag for a camera that is slightly bigger than most, I doubt it would fit a DSLR with Lens though.

Celestron 52265 C90 Maksutov Spotting Scope

Celestron 52265 C90 Maksutov Spotting Scope
The Maksutov optical design is recognized for being a portable design that is easy to use and has a variety of applications, making it an excellent choice for both terrestrial and astronomical usage. This C90 Mak has excellent optics with razor sharp images over a wide field. The C90 Mak features an internal flip mirror design which allows the user to view celestial objects at a 90 degree angle and also corrects the image orientation to view land objects at a 45 degree angle. The full-featured C90 MAK is also rubber covered and completely waterproof. This model features durable black rubber armor for protection, a flip up lens cap for safety, and it comes complete inside its own soft sided carrying case.

Customer Review: Celestron 90 review

I bought this scope for birding. I am a ametuar birder.

C90 is a catadioptric scope which folds the light path in the optical tube. The pro of this design is that it can be made short and compact and well-seal for waterproof. C90 is relative short and large aperture among spotting scopes. The other good thing is that you can use hundreds of 1.25" eyepiece for it.

The optics: its optics is good. The front glass is coated with a purple-tint anti-reflecting layer. And there is a flip-mirror inside the rear part which can reflect the light to its 90 degree window for astronomic observation (like the star diagonals). From the 90 degree window, the image is crisp and very good details (much better than my Minox 62 ED). It comes with a 45 degree erecting prism; however, the prism is a cheap stuff. It is not coated and degree the image obviously. I strongly suggest replace it with better multicoated prism or a star diagonals.

I have tried a Baader 8-24mm Zoom on C90. Wow, that is sooooooo nice! The color, contrast and detail is very good. Color is very accurate. I found that the its 32mm plossl has yellow-tint. I really enjoy birding with this zoom.

That's my review on C90.

Customer Review: FANTASTIC Scope for the $$$

I was going to get a more expensive new Telescope but tried this one out instead. The view of the moon with the standard eyepiece is phenomenal and when I use my 10mm wide angle eyepiece it is like being on one of the landers! Much more portable than anything larger and the view is about the same. Don't be fooled by larger, more expensive scopes. When you look at Jupiter it is still only going to be a twinkling object in the sky with the $600 scope!

When Saturn was near I could see the ring around it plainly with just the 10mm wide angle eyepiece.

Try this one BEFORE you spend too much money for something that collects dust in your house!

Digital Photo Camera Shopping Trips

There is nothing that will make a person feel more insecure than when a stranger hands them a digital photo camera, and asks them to capture a picturesque, once-in-a-lifetime moment. People go on photo camera shopping trips to find a digital camera that feels comfortable and does what they expect it to. Handling a camera that you are unfamiliar with, however, leaves something to be desired. Operating someone else?s digital camera, that you know nothing about, is a very awkward moment, at best.

The digital camera functions are foreign to those who do not use them regularly, or are not up-to-speed on the latest advancements in digital photography. If you are not sure if you could center the event in the center of the viewfinder, it might be best if the people found another picture candidate to take your place. On digital camera shopping trips in the past, you had developed a certain concept of what the buttons were meant to do, but you did not know much more than that.

When people get to the point that they feel uncomfortable about not knowing how to operate a digital camera, and when they go on digital photo camera shopping trips to bring them up-to-date on the technology that baffles them so much. When they are through with the photo camera shopping trips, they have learned enough to be able to handle any type of photo taking opportunity that comes their way.

There are lessons to be learned on digital photo camera shopping trips in the areas of purchasing a digital camera by type, by price, or by megapixels count that go from 3 megapixels to 8 megapixels and up. Some people want to find out about which digital photo camera would be best for making still photos into video presentations. Other people are quite content to remain unaware and are happy purchasing a cheap, point and shoot camera on their digital photo camera shopping trips.

Before leaving on any digital photo camera shopping trips, people prefer to familiarize themselves on all of the different aspects that surround digital photo camera picture taking. They will find several Internet magazine sites that cover all of the technological advances that have occurred in digital cameras. They will search for reviews from people that have purchased digital photo camera?s and try to determine the best way to approach their digital photo camera shopping trips.

Getting organized before going on digital photo camera shopping trips, might require that you identify what you plan to do with the digital photo camera you are fixing to purchase. If buying a cheap digital photo camera for under $250 will meet your needs, then you will have to become familiar with all of the entry-level features and performance that a budget camera will provide.

If you are a business traveler, you might need to consider whether a ultra-compact digital camera will be the best choice, because on digital photo camera shopping trips, you may find hundreds of camera models in display cases that are not ultra-compact, and you should have to ask a sales representative to separate your choices down by digital camera type to help you make a decision.

5 Simple Tips For A Longer Digital Camera Battery Life

What is a digital camera battery? Every one knows the answer - the power source that drives a digital camera. In fact, it won't be wrong to say that the performance of a digital camera is largely dependent upon the stability of power supply it could derive from the battery. However, the digital camera has never been famous for its power consumption. For example, AA cells that drive most digital cameras, taken 4 at a time, can power a digital camera for one hour maximum, assuming it ran continuously. Not a good omen in any count, but for any digital photographer, the writing on the wall is quite clear; if to use a digital camera, be ready to spend a decent amount on recharging the battery.

No one is to be blamed for this type of unbridled power consumption of a digital camera. It has something to do with the state-of-the-art digital design and intricate circuitry. The only way out is to keep check on the power consumption rate and to use a more efficient battery.

Commenting on the latter point first - recently it has been found out that Li-ion, NiMH, and NiCAD batteries are more efficient and long lasting than conventional AA cells. NiMH is the costliest amongst the lot, but its feature to recharge, in a longer run, could help cover the initial cost.

Selecting the most efficient of the digital camera batteries alone won't solve the problem completely. To strike a balance between the battery life and your pocket, further steps need to be taken. Elaborating on this, the one aspect those using a digital camera tend to forget is that they mainly waste a lot of power by not effectively handling the camera. As a rule of thumb, let us see few tips that can be for lengthening the battery life.

? While selecting batteries, never ever mix and match different brands.

? Check playback to the minimum possible.

? Never expose the batteries to moisture or water. If not in use, take out the batteries from the camera.

? Switch off the LCD viewfinder if not using.

? And the most important of all, when not in use, switch of the digital camera.

Many of our inefficient ways are borne out of carelessness than any technical hurdle or ignorance. By following the above mentioned steps, with a little effort, one can easily learn to fetch more mileage for his/her digital camera batteries. Remember, it not only extends the battery life but also these simple tips will save you money.

Customer Review: wildlife camera

These two items were delivered promptly at a great price. I am already using three others on the ranch and have found them to be quite satisfactory for the price.

Customer Review: Awsom Pictures.

The advertised Battery life appears to be realistic. My dad and I put the Camera out where it ran taking 1200 to 1500 pictures for about 5 weeks and the battery life was still showing around 80%.

The picture clarity is very good, with deer often visible at distance beyond 150 ft. in the day light with color pictures.

This camera has outperfomred my expectations and I have already recommended it to others. I really really like this camera.

Canon 18x50 Image Stabilization All-Weather Binoculars w/Case, Neck Strap & Batteries

Canon 18x50 Image Stabilization All-Weather Binoculars w/Case, Neck Strap & Batteries

Other features include - a water resistant, non-slip rubber coating for protection against rain & splashing water & secure handling Long eye relief that allows the use of eyeglasses without vignetting of the image Wide 67 field of view Doublet field-flattener for sharp, distortion-free images from edge to edge Powered by 2 AA batteries Includes - deluxe carrying case, wide strap, & 2 AA Alkaline batteries Canon 3-Year USA / 1 Year International Warranty

Customer Review: Great Binoculars

I bought the Canon 18x50 mage Stabilization binoculars to use at football games and at golf tournaments. The image stabiliation feature is fantastic. At football games you can look right at a couple of players. It may have to much power for a football game if your seats are close. At golf tournaments it is great to concentrate on one player. I would buy them again. I wish binoculars had a zoom in zoom out feature.

Customer Review: Shake Free Viewing

These are my second pair of Canon IS binoculars. The 1st were the 12x36's. There is simply no comparison between the image quality of Canon Image Stabilized binoculars and even the best manufacturer's non-stabilized versions. The current generation IS is simple to use and compensates for significant user shake. My new 18x50's hold an image relatively still even better than my 12x pair.

The field is extremely flat and crisp with zero visible distortion from edge to edge. Another useful feature is the ability to easily adjust the interpupilary distance so the two fields merge into one. Color is excellent and so is contrast. Canon optics are very good indeed.

18x power binoculars open a whole new vista into night time sky observation....the edge of the Milky Way looks absolutely incredible, you can see crystal clear views of moon craters, etc. All this viewing can be done without preocupation to hold the binoculars still and refocus all the time. Your observation time is actually spent looking at moons, double stars, and clusters.

I am very glad I decided to spend the extra money these cost. The image quality and stabilization definitely make these binoculars worth it.

Customer Review: Great GPS for the price!

Can't go wrong for $150, this unit does it all and is nice and easy to use. Battery life is not real good, but it is meant to used in the car and plugged in.

Customer Review: Tom Tom One, third edition

The Tojm Tom works pretty well. I find that it sometiimes loses setting, such as voice, when turned off. Also, I had it set to give an alarm for rest stops and it failed to do so in most instances. I suppose they were not mapped. Overall, it is very satisfactory. It is a very god value.

School Security Cameras: Do Studies And Surveillance Mesh?

Do security cameras belong in schools?

The answer to this continues to be the subject of heated debates. Parents and legislators are all for the installation of school security cameras while students and teachers vehemently oppose it. The issue is one that strikes a very powerful chord in schools everywhere, and echoes the dilemma that confront lawmakers on a national scale. Which is more important - safety or personal privacy?

Why the Need for School Security Cameras?

In recent years, the school has been the setting of many tragic and violent incidents. To prevent further bloodshed, educators and legislators have united to make schools safe once more. Some of the strategies that sprang from the collaboration include the deployment of a full-time security officer in school buildings. Another is training students how to handle potentially explosive situations involving their peers. A third, and certainly the most controversial, strategy is the placement of school security cameras.

    What Are School Security Cameras?

School security cameras are cameras placed in key areas within school grounds. These cameras use a recording system that allows easy storage, easy recall, and even easier viewing from different monitors, either individually or simultaneously. School security cameras monitor activities taking place within their viewing range. A school personnel or a police officer keeps track of recorded images.

    Benefits of School Security Cameras
Supporters of the move claim that school security cameras serve as a good crime deterrent. Because students know that they are being watched, they will not engage in vandalism, for example, or physically hurtful acts. In addition, school security cameras will alert authorities to potentially difficult situations. For instance, security guards can see that a brawl is about to take place, and, therefore, intervene before the fighting even starts.

Another benefit of installing school security cameras is that it provides concerned authorities with evidence that is not likely to be available anywhere else. Because footage is monitored on a regular and timely basis, suspicious activity, criminal or otherwise, can be spotted in a timely manner.

Drawbacks of Installing School Security Cameras
Opponents of the scheme to install school security cameras, on the other hand, aver that school security cameras do not make students and teachers any safer. Everyone knows where the cameras are. Thus, eluding the cameras won't be a problem to someone intending to do a teacher or a student harm.

Another con of school security cameras is cost. The cost of setting up and maintaining a network of school security cameras can be very prohibitive. Thankfully, prices of surveillance equipment have dramatically dropped in recent years, and it is now possible to purchase the necessary apparatus without breaking the bank.

The most emphatic reason given, however, is that school security cameras will trample people's rights to privacy. In the wrong hands, video footage of unsuspecting students and teachers can be used disastrously.

Experts believe that school security cameras will help schools return to the beautiful, idyllic learning institutions they once had been. Critics of school security cameras, on the other hand, assert that surveillance will not help curb violence in schools. As a matter of fact, it might even encourage violence because it sends out the message that the school is a potential crime scene, not a community of teachers and learners who can resolve conflict constructively.

It is safe to say that debates over the use of school security cameras will continue to rage for many more years to come. Safety will always be everyone's paramount concern. The pursuit of safety, however, should not be at the cost of the basic human rights to privacy, free speech, and association.

    Celestron NexImage Solar System Imager

    Celestron NexImage Solar System Imager
Complete CCD solar system imager capable of producing high quality planetary images with tremendous detail / Greater light sensitivity and color fidelity

Customer Review: Celestron NexImage - affordable - reliable- easy to use

I have found the Celestron NexImage to be a low cost and successful addition to my astrography collection of cameras. The CCD chip is very sensitive and even with my smaller 70mm Meade ETZX you can see Saturn's rings very clearly.

Customer Review: cannot use the product

I have installed the included software on 2 separate laptop computers without success. A message pops up telling me that a preview is not available, meaning that the image from the camera will not show on the screen. After uninstalling and re-installing the software several times, I searched the internet and found a demo version which I downloaded. This worked fine and showed the image on the screen but the software is not configured the same as the Celestron software and is a limited demo version.

I made several unsuccessful attempts to contact someone at Celestron and they do not respond to my emails.

For me, this was a waste of money!!!!

Bogen - Manfrotto RC2 Compact Rapid Connect Adapter w/3157N Plate
The 3299 is a RC2 compact rapid connect adaptor with 3157N plate.

    Customer Review: Very Satisfied

I bought this quick release adapter and am very pleased with it. It holds the camera securely and is easy to use.

Customer Review: Can't go wrong! Who needs Arca-Swiss?

I wrote a review of the plates for this release the other day and gave them 5 stars too. But obviously you've got to have the connector to start, so I'll write one here. You can't go wrong with this setup! I've got a bunch of the plates on my bodies and lenses, and the releases mounted on two tripods (and a monopod!) and I love them. I've got no qualms about having my Nikon gear hanging over my shoulder connected only by this release, it's a rock! If you're still screwing gear on and off your tripod get this now!

    Digital SLR Camera & Lens 7-Piece Deluxe Cleaning Kit including Cameta Microfiber Cleaning Cloth - for Nikon D300, D3, D200, D100, D80, D70s, D70, D50, D40x & D40 Cameras

    Digital SLR Camera & Lens 7-Piece Deluxe Cleaning Kit including Cameta Microfiber Cleaning Cloth - for Nikon D300, D3, D200, D100, D80, D70s, D70, D50, D40x & D40 Cameras
It's obvious that the cleaner the lens, the sharper your pictures will be. Dirt, dust, and fingerprints will degrade the image quality of even the finest optics. However, it's important to avoid using incorrect cleaning materials which can permanently damage your photo equipment. Used properly, the cleaning supplies in this kit are certified safe for use on your valuable digital and film photo equipment and optics. The environmentally-friendly Deluxe Air Blower is a real dust-blaster. It's nothing like those tiny blower brushes which are capable of producing only a gentle breath of air. When you squeeze this Deluxe Air Blower you get a focused gust of air that really pushes the dust off. Using the blower should always be the first step in cleaning your photo equipment. Use it to remove dust, dirt and grit from the surface of your lenses before you attempt to clean them with lens tissue. Otherwise you may find that you are grinding grit onto the delicate lens surface and may scratch it. The blower may also be used — carefully following your camera manufacturer's instructions and exercising due caution — to clean the camera's image sensor. [Of course, it is recommended that digital image sensor cleaning be done only by those who are justifiably confident in their knowledge and ability to do so.] This kit also contains Lens Cleaning Liquid which is used to lightly moisten a sheet of Lens Tissue to aid in the removal of fingerprints, oil, grease and environmental pollutants from your lenses and filters. The Soft Cleaning Cloth and the Cotton Swabs are very useful for caring for the exterior (non-optical) surface of all your photo equipment. ♦ The Cameta Microfiber Cleaning Cloth is designed using the latest 21st Century technology to clean fingerprints, oily smudges and other contaminants from LCD monitors and lens optics quickly, safely and easily. ♦ Used regularly, this SLR Camera Care Cleaning Kit will keep your equipment sparkling clean.

Duracell Value Charger With 4AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF14DX4N

Duracell Value Charger With 4AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF14DX4N
Customer Review: As good as any

The Duracell Value Pre Charged Rechargeable NiMH AA Batteries are OK, but frankly I don't see any discernable difference between them and others of the same variety, except the fact they arrive charged--unless they were on a shelf somewhere for a couple of months before delivery. I didn't take a chance and charged them before I used them anyhow. I suppose that was not necessary, but I had no idea how fresh the batteries were.

The batteries have performed well for me in a digital camera so far. I would recommend them and the charger that is included, but without saying they are superior to other high end brands.

Customer Review: Works like a charm

Son is excited to save all of his progress on his Wii. Not sure what else to say in a review excepts it does what it is supposed to.

    Customer Review: Pretty Good...

I really liked the SanDisk Wii Gaming SD Memory 1 GB because it had all the memory that I need (and more), and it wasn't too high of a price. I don't see anything wrong with it that would ruin its perfection.

    Wii Pool Stick

    Wii Pool Stick
Rack ?em and break ?em with this Pool Stick for your Nintendo Wii. Designed in the mold of a conventional pool stick, this 26.5" stick will give you the authentic feel of cueing it up on the pool table. The handle ofthe stick serves as the cradle for your Wii remote. The tip of the stick is covered with rubber to prevent any harm in the event that someone or something is poked. It is light in weight so that it does not become taxing over a period of long playing time, which makes the game even more enjoyable for the user.

Customer Review: Works or not depending on how you use it.

I really take some risk to buy it with such a poor rate. When I got it, I found out why some people called it a failure.

If you put your sensor bar above your TV like me, it definitely won't work if you assemble it as designed. Because the infra red signal comes out from a hole at the bottom of the stick. The stick itself will block the signal when sensor bar is higher. If sensor bar is below your TV, it works fine. Just for people playing with two hands, your left hand may block the signal sometimes.

For those who put the sensor bar above your TV, I suggest to use it as what I do now. It definitely works and gives you a real feel. Don't screw the stick onto the controller holder to its very end. Make half a circle left such that the hole will face upword. Now enjoy game and your pool stick.

    Hope it help.

    ColorVision Spyder2PRO Win/Mac

    ColorVision Spyder2PRO Win/Mac
ColorVision spyder2pro is a comprehensive system for professionally calibrating all types of monitors—including front projector displays—and for creating custom printer profiles for any PrintFIX Plus-supported printer. The Spyder2PRO system includes both the hardware and the software to make sure you workflow begins with accurate, on-screen color.

The award-winning Spyder2 colorimeter attaches to your LCD, CRT, or laptop screen.

The Spyder2 colorimeter working together with the Spyder2 Professional Monitor Calibration Software.

spyder2pro can even help you calibrate front projector displays.
    spyder2pro Professional Monitor Calibration System
The hardware component of spyder2pro is the award-winning Spyder2 colorimeter. This colorimeter attaches to your LCD, CRT, or laptop screen (the hardware is designed to be very gentle on delicate LCD screens), and then connects to your computer via USB cable. New state-of-the-art optical science provides a five-fold increase in color sensitivity over previous technology with a patent-protected light baffle for accurate characterization of LCD displays.

With the colorimeter affixed to the screen, the Spyder2 Professional Monitor Calibration Software guides you through the entire calibration process. With the colorimeter reading the color output from the software via the display screen, you will be instructed how to fine-tune the calibration buttons on your display. spyder2pro even allows you to calibrate multiple monitors, so you can have side-by-side displays of different brands and sizes that show the exact same colors. Once the calibration is complete, the unique "before and after" viewing feature lets you compare your display with and without calibration.

spyder2pro also address the issue of ambient light. Since the eye's perception of a monitor's colors and brightness can vary greatly in different room light, the Ambient PreciseLight Function measures ambient light and balances studio lighting and monitor settings accordingly.

High-test features for the professional include custom response targeting, colorimeter and information windows, custom targeting, and ICC 2.0 and 4.0 support. Exclusive automated black-and-white luminance adjustments for use in precision targeting provide more consistent calibration results. Sophisticated gray balance and tonal response algorithms provide demanding users with exceptionally smooth gradient steps and neutral grays.

If you use a front projector for presentations, the new front projector calibration option ensures that your images are shown to their best advantage.

    PrintFIX PLUS Printer Profiling Software
If you print your digital images, you probably know that getting good color performance in your prints can be at least as daunting as matching colors on computer monitors. The PrintFIX PLUS Printer Profiling Software addresses this issue with the first software-only profiling tool to give you fast, precise results. Rather than using a scanner, the elegant software assists you step-by-step through each custom paper profile for PrintFIX PLUS-compatible printers.

The software wizard helps you check your print quality and optimize your printer's media setting. Using the wizard helps you create high-bit, tunable ICC printer profiles. You can preview your results at different rendering intents, and there are even options to optimize your prints for specific viewing conditions.

The PrintFIX PLUS software includes a complete Help system and tutorials to assist you with the basic and advanced advice on how to get great prints.

An essential product for serious photographers and design professionals
Color correction has emerged as a cornerstone of the digital workflow for all digital imaging professionals. Professional photographers and creative professionals understand that a color-managed workflow begins with accurate, on-screen color. When precise color is critical, spyder2pro can be an important foundation in creating, marketing, and showing your work.

ColorVision backs the spyder2pro with a 2 year hardware warranty and includes free technical support and free software updates.

    Customer Review: Great monitor calibrator

This is a great tool to insure that the edits you make on digital photographs produce the results you want in final prints. Intuitive to use, quick calibration, and useful reminders for periodic re-calibrations make this product a no-brainer for digital photographers.

Customer Review: Dual Monitor Use For Video Editing

I've been using Spyder 2PRO for several months to edit video on a Mac Book Pro 17' with a secondary monitor, switching between several different types of monitors including LCD and NTSC. During startup, the Mac determines which monitor is connected and applies the appropriate profile. After getting the hang of the software, matching monitor calibration was achieved and the relevant data stored with each monitor's profile. The only drawback has been the lack of Mac Book Pro's individual brightness and contrast manual controls which required several passes through monitor setup to find the best combination. After checking the calibrations using SMPTE color bars with a blue filter I am quite pleased with the results. Tips for the novice: Turn off all auto options on the computer such as keyboard backlight, ambient adjust, etc. and allow the Spyder ambient sensor to take light measurements and indicate changes in room lighting. Also, turn off all desktop pictures/designs and select solid medium gray as the backdrop when working with images.

Garmin 010-10691-05 City Navigator NT Italy and Greece Map

Garmin 010-10691-05 City Navigator NT Italy and Greece Map
Detailed coverage for Italy, Vatican City State, San Marino and Greece includes the municipalities of Patra, Greater Athens and Greater Thessaloniki

Customer Review: Even if you buy this, still have with you a regular map!

Oddly, the Product Details do not contain a very important piece of information: the map version. I suspect this Product is the same "CN Europe NT Italy and Greece Version 9" map that was available last year on just SD card (but not microSD). If so, I have a couple of comments regarding it.

My opinion, based on our 2007 trip to Tuscany, is: it certainly is a useful product but you cannot always rely on it. Even if you have this product and a GPS with you, still take along a good road atlas (such as Atlante Stradale d'Italia) for global route planning, and, wherever you plan to stay or visit more than once, always try to get a detailed local map.

    Now some particular examples:

The V9 map was already noticeably obsolete in 2007. It was missing some new rotaries and ramps and some newly build highway extents. Once we missed our exit because of that.

Some places of interest were located incorrectly on the map. E.g. the railroad station in Poggibonsi, Tuscany, is located on the map on the wrong side of the tracks. The GPS brought us to a place from where there was no access to the station, no parking etc. When we realized what happened and manually directed the GPS to take us to the spot on the opposite side of the tracks, the GPS navigated us to a tunnel that we could not even enter because it was one way (the wrong way for us). Luckily, we had a local map that we used to find another railroad crossing! (I guess I could try the GPS "Detour" button and may be that would work out, but at the time I was just fed up with it!)

I could list many other annoying quirks some of which could be attributed to the map data (which I guess is produced by NAVTEQ) and some to the Garmin navigation system, but that would not be appropriate for this brief review.

And, of course, there were many cases when everything worked flawlessly and the product was of great help.
